Gajini

When Rahman and Aamir Khan have come together, there has always been musical magic, beginning in 1995 with Rangeela and continuing with films like 1947 Earth, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and the Aamir Khan produced Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na this year. No wonder the expectations from the music of Ghajin are immense especially since Prasoon Joshi has penned the lyrics. There are

As mentioned, Guzarish is clearly the best number of the album. Sonu Niga

Although Bekha is a popular number in terms of the promos and the various looks of Aamir in the song, it is the only track which sounds like it actually belongs in a South India film in spite of the sprinkles of Jazz Rahman has added. Somewhere the song just lacks punch in spite of a nice musical intro. Karthik adds life to the song in the vocals but yet it is just about an average number.
Latoo comes as a surprise both because it is very unlike most Rahman

Overall Ghajini is an enjoyable album with a mix of romantic numbers and pacy ones as well. Guzarish and Kaise Mujhe are the best while Latoo and Aye Bachchu are fun numbers which will find mass appeal. Behka is the only really average number in this album.

Lollipop - Another celebration of youth
Hitmaker Shafi, f
resh from his last years super hits 'Mayavi’ and 'Chocolate' is
back, with another movie with a big young cast. Apart from his hit leads of ‘Chocolate' - Prithviraj and Jayasuriya, Shafi is also bringing back the romantic hero 'Kunchakko Boban ' back to tinsel town with this movie tiled 'Lolipop'.

.jpg)
The movie has Prithviraj as Franco, who runs an automobile workshop at Fort Kochi. He is a freaky youth wh
o takes all strides to enjoy the life to its fullest. He shares
a special bonding with his only sister Jennifer, who are more like friends .Franco and Jennifer have lost their parents at very younger stages of their life, and to avoid being left lonely at any further stage of their life, they have even decided to find their match in life, only after mutual approval .
.jpg)
.jpg)
Kunchakko Boban plays Aby, a junior Doctor of the hospital near Franko's workshop. Jayasuriya is Francis, a mechanic at Franco's workshop. He was an expert in pick pocketing and fraudulent ways, till he met Franco. But now Francis, called as Panchy is a different man wit
h all good maneuvers.
.jpg)
All the party gets spoiled when Franco falls in love with Rosebella (Bhavana). Franco fears that since he cou
ldn't keep his word with his sister, she may object to his relationship. But Franco doesn’t realize that Jennifer is already in similar dilemmas as she got attracted to Dr.Aby.

Rajan P Dev plays Rosebella`s dad, Chandikunju, who runs a finance company. Though he is having a worse relationship with Dr. Aby`s dad, who was his former partner, both Rosebella and Aby are thick friends, who never care about their parent's fight. Knowing Franc
o's new relationship with Rosebella, Jennifer’s starts hating Rosebella. This affects Franco a lot, who tries all the ways to get the approval from his
sister, which leads to a lot of interesting sequences. ‘Lolipop’ is thus a celebration of brotherhood, friendship and love, told in the scripts of hit scriptwriter Benny P Nayarambalam.
Roma plays Jennifar while Bhavana is Rosebella. And the regulars in Shafi film
s like Salimkumar and Suraj have got brilliant roles in ‘Lolipop’, as well. Salimkumar is Fr. Kuriakose, who is not just a priest but also a lawyer popularly called as ‘Vakkilachan'. Suraj plays Jabbar, a worker in Franco's workshop who is still ailing in the loss of his lover, who got married to his elder
brother.
'Lolipop' is produced by A B S combines, the new banner formed by the three big hit names of Mollywood-Producer Anto Joseph, scriptwriter Benny P Nayarambalam, and the director Shafi. And so we can rightly expect that they have saved the best for their debut venture as producers. The movie cinematographed by Azhagappan, will have the music by Alex Paul. The movie will be a big release for this Christmas.

Crazy Gopalan - A heist thriller in the cards
Crazy Gopalan - A heist thriller in the cards
A hi tech thief whose mind is the store house of every fraudulent plans to grab wealth. That is Kattila Gopalan, the new character presented by Dileep in his new movie 'Crazy Gopalan'. Yes, Dileep is back with a release after eight months from ''Mulla'' which came up during last Vishu. The actor who had been heavily engaged with the production of AMMA's 'Twenty: 20’ will have a release as an independent hero by the end of this week.
In the movie, Gopalan, the title character never had any intention to become a robber. He actually came into the city in search of a fortune but circumstances forced him to become one wily robber and burglar, whose actual identity is quite a mystery to most. He got only a very few friends including Lavanku Vasu, a small-time lottery ticket vendor played by Jagathy' which is the right hand to Gopalan in the discussions and realizations of his weird plans. Also in their group is Lakshmanan, a pickpocketer, who usually takes charge of the stolen goods and sell them in the open market without creating any chaos. Gopalan accidentally meet Diana, who unknowingly becomes a link in his wicked activities.
Through the movie, debutante director, Deepu Karunakaran is aiming for a thrilling heist movie, like the popular racy ones that we usually see in Hollywood. ''The movie is planned entirely as one that tells the story of a robbery gang. We are trying to eliminate everything that may sound as a cliche, 'says Deepu who also writes the dialogues and screenplay for Crazy Gopalan .
The movie will present debutante Radha Varma as the heroine. D Kannnan wields the camera while Joseph Nellikkal is in charge of art direction. The music department of the movie is handled by Rahulraj who sets tunes for a few songs written by Gireesh Puthanchery and Anil Panachooran. ‘Crazy Gopalan’ is produced by Ullattil Sasidharan, under the banner of Bhavana Media vision
Selecting a final title for this movie had been a marathon race for Dileep and his crew who has gone through names like ‘Run Run Run,Run Gopla run’, ‘Dhoom Dhamal Gopala’ and ‘Crazy Rascals’ before settling for the title 'Crazy Gopalan'. Let’s see whether the change of names will bring any more luck to Dileep who has been in the wait for a big hit for quite a long time.

Varanam Aayiram

This film by director Gautham Menon, is a tribute to his father who passed away last year. The story, semi-autobiographical, talks about a son’s love and admiration for his father.
Surya (Surya) the son, goes down memory lane when he hears about his father’s demise, while on a rescue mission in his role as a major. The story unfolds from the time, his father Krishnan (Surya) and mother Malini (Simran) met in college and fell love. And from his childhood days it moves on to his days in college and adulthood.
The audience watches as the bond between the father-son duo grows. When Surya falls in love with Meghana (Sameera), he follows her to the US, (where she is pursuing her masters) with the blessings of his parents. Tragedy strikes and he loses her in an accident. Devastated, Surya returns home and soon finds solace in drugs. Weaning him out of this vice, are his parents, especially his father.
He joins the army, following an incident where he rescues a little boy from his kidnappers. It is a saga of a middle class home, laced with emotion and simple incidents taken from life. The father not a hero, yet the inspiration for the son. However, a tad too long, interrupted by too many songs, unwarranted at some places How many of us would in real life, sing a dapaam koothu in the midst of tragedy?
But the film is watchable, the main draw being Surya on whom the film rests. The star excels in both roles, as the father and the son. The make up and the restrained acting in the senior role is a sharp contrast to his spontaneous self as the son.
Some scenes tug at your heart strings, especially the one where Surya is angry with his father when he takes away his drugs. Surya portrays the helplessness in the situation well and leaves you wiping your tears. But life is all about moving on, just as his father believed.
Sameera is a pretty picture. Simran as the mother is a natural. Divya Spandana, as Priya, his sister’s friend and the girl next door performs well. Harris Jayraj’s numbers are peppy. Visuals are good. More editing could have been done though. Do watch it if you love Surya.
